Hello, Writers!
I waited until today to send this email because I wasn't sure what would happen last night in Iran, and that would have affected our topics greatly! Thankfully, it was Taco Tuesday... Some quick announcements before our topics: 1. We will have our next in-person writing event April 19 from 1-4PM at Alice's house. We will be writing letters and postcards, so please bring your laptop if you wish to write letters. Also, letter writers, please set up a Vote Forward account if you haven't done so already at votefwd.org. We will also be collecting donations for the Eliza's House Food Pantry at this event. Items they have requested include: microwaveable food, peanut butter, jelly, bread, rice, canned food. Personal hygiene items are always welcome. RSVP to [email protected] to let us know you're coming! 2. Our upcoming Weekend of Activism will be next week from April 16-19! The above-mentioned Pens to Power event is the last event in this weekend of activism. The weekend schedule includes: Thu April 16 - Hub CIty Vinyl concert and party Fri April 17 - Rush Hour Resistance on the bridge over I-70 Sat April 18 - WaCo Indivisible General Meeting at the downtown library Sun April 19 - Pens to Power Letter and Postcard Event at Alice's You can purchase tickets for Hub City at the link below - early bird pricing until April 10!: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/indivisible-together-in-2026-w-the-lana-spence-band-and-special-guests-tickets-1986244005288 3. Don't forget, Pens to Power has rolled out TWO new ways to get involved! a) Our very own Vote Forward dashboard! Visit https://votefwd.org/wacoindivisible to get started creating your account, logging in, and starting work on your letters! Feel free to bring your own letters to the event on April 19 and keep working on them, or print a new batch at the event. Totally up to you! b) We've rolled out our Satellite Pens to Power Events! If you're interested in hosting your very own P2P writing event, fill out this form and we'll help you get set up with supplies and instructions to support your event. Let's get into our topics for the week! ___________________ WEEKLY TOPICS: Federal: I think we can all agree that this week, Trump took things way too far with Iran. Threatening the nuclear destruction of an entire civilization is a war crime. This president needs to be impeached and removed. It's time to apply maximum pressure to Congress. Even if it's a long shot, this is a rare moment when perhaps even some more conservative Capitol Hill figures might sway in our direction, and it's important to try. We know our own senators and reps are probably already on board, so let's ask them not only to push for impeachment, but also to lobby their GOP colleagues to support impeachment efforts. There is a template attached, if you need it. Write to: Sen. Chris Van Hollen 730 Hart Senate Office Bldg. Washington DC 20510 https://www.vanhollen.senate.gov/contact/email Sen. Angela Alsobrooks SR-374 Russell Senate Office Building Washington DC 20510 https://www.alsobrooks.senate.gov/contact/get-in-touch/ Rep. April McClain Delaney 1130 Longworth House Office Building Washington DC 20515 https://mcclaindelaney.house.gov/contact/email-me STATE: As of April 2026, the Maryland General Assembly is actively considering the Community Trust Act (HB 1575/SB 791), which aims to prohibit local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration authorities (ICE) without a judicial warrant. This follows the recent passage of legislation banning 287(g) agreements, which previously allowed local police to be deputized as ICE agents. Let's write to our delegates and urge them to not just support the CTA but also lobby their Republican colleagues to support it. Use CASA's contact form and letter to tell our Maryland leaders to support the CTA: https://wearecasa.org/maryland-2/legislative-session-agenda/ LOCAL: It's been a while since we reached out to our County Commissioners. We have dropped off (hand-delivered!) not only a list of questions for them about the ICE warehouse that has gone unanswered for weeks, but also our Citizen's Resolution that we also haven't heard back about. Let's write to them this week and ask them if they have finally managed to come up with some answers? We're going to email them this week so they get our messages faster. Write to: John F. Barr, President [email protected] Jeffrey A. Cline, Vice President [email protected] Randall E. Wagner [email protected] Randal Leatherman [email protected] Don't forget tonight is our No War rally in the Square to protest the Iran actions by the lawless White House. We'll be there 5-6PM! See you at one of our upcoming events, and I'll be back next week with more topics! Happy Spring! Laura
